For Attorneys

Elizabeth (Beth) Schockmel, Psy.D., is a clinical psychologist with specialty training and extensive experience in the field of child and family forensic psychology.  Working throughout New York, particularly in the Third Judicial Department, she focuses her practice on the completion of comprehensive, balanced evaluations, typically seeing non-intact families presenting with heightened levels of complexity and, often, chronic conflict.  In forensic practice for more than 25 years, Dr. Schockmel has conducted over 750 thorough forensic assessments.  While the majority of her evaluations focus on custody and parenting time, Dr. Schockmel brings knowledge and expertise to related matters, including cases of abuse and neglect, and proceedings addressing the termination of parental rights.

For a dozen years, Dr. Schockmel was associated with the Child and Family Forensic Unit of Albany County Mental Health Center, functioning as director for the majority of that time.  During her tenure in that role, Dr. Schockmel was responsible for evaluation and testimony work, as well as clinical supervision of the doctoral-level psychologists who staffed the unit.  In addition to oversight of more than 1500 evaluations completed by the Family Court team, Dr. Schockmel was directly involved in the education and training of psychology interns and graduate students.  She has completed forensic assessments from her private office in Albany for more than 15 years.  With extensive exposure to forensic practice in both the public and private sectors, Dr. Schockmel's breadth and depth of experience is invaluable when completing court-ordered evaluations and when engaged as a consultant to counsel.  She offers full and partial second opinion assessments, expert testimony, review of the work products of forensic practitioners, and assistance with trial preparation.
